Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Love Never Dies"

I don't generally like sequels. I didn't want to see "Love Never Dies" but Elle is obsessed with all things Phantom. OBSESSED. And so when I saw it was coming to movie theaters via Fathom Events (love, love, love Fathom Events!) for 2 nights only before the DVD release in late May, I knew I had to take her to see it. I fully support my children's artistic endeavors and, let's face it, I enjoy them greatly myself. She'd shown me some YouTube clips and I was pretty impressed by the production quality, sets and music. It might not be bad after all, I thought, still half-expecting it to pale in comparison to the original. Boy, was I in for a treat.

WOW, just wow. It is gorgeous. Powerful. Original. It is the most UNsequel sequel I've ever seen. Of course, there are the familiar characters we all know and love, naturally, but it's in a completely different setting, entirely different dynamics, amazing music, completely different and gorgeous sets. Awe-inspiring visuals, much more complex and stirring music that makes your chest pound and leaves you a bit breathless; delicious and dark oddities (it's set in early 1900's Coney Island). It was, in one word: sublime. And I don't think we can wait for the DVD to come out. I think we're going to catch the second showing in movie theaters next week.

And, no, I'm not being compensated for this post. It's that wonderful. Catch it if you can (go to www.FathomEvents.com for info.).
