I give good comment.

Years ago I read a farewell post on a blog I was relatively new to in which the writer expressed that she felt she was better in comments anyway so, you know, don't cry for me, Argentina. I remember thinking I knew exactly what she meant.

Via this post, I now give you The Van Story:

Like the overanxious parents-to-be that we were, we ran out and got [a mini-van] when I was pregnant with Natalie. Years passed and I soon started to call it “My Symbol of Infertility” (I believe this is what they call foreshadowing). So I got rid of it. Then I was (infertile). Then I wasn’t (infertile). Long story short, I now pack 3 kids in a nearly 10-year-old boxy Volvo* with very low miles and between you and me? I sometimes do think a van would make my life easier. (I believe this it what they call irony.)

[*I love my car]

So funny. Just this morning I was struggling to squeeze my three girls (5, 3 and 3 months) into my own boxy volvo to do school drop off, thinking I may have to go back on my "I'll never buy a van" promise. I swore I'd never buy the "family wagon" but perhaps it would prevent a whole lot of cursing!

You do give good comment! And by the way, I haul my two around in a seven year old Hyundaii, our only car. I love that car, I had it pre-kids and will drive it till it dies!

I had a minivan in a beautiful sparklie red color. Tan interior, wonderful sound system, tinted windows, motorized side and back doors. Loved it. Then the kids got their own cars and licenses and I often found myself alone in the minivan rockin' out to , yeah big surprise here, You Should Be Dancing. I felt guilty about the gas it took to cart just me around. So, I bought a 4 door Camry with lovey leather seats. It has a moon roof and also a nice stereo system. Have had it for almost 5 years now...under a year left to pay on it. It still feels like my new car and I love it.

But some days, when I have SweetRose with me I long for the minivan again.

Alas, life goes on...minivan or not.

You do give good comment. I've always enjoyed it...

I felt bad having to give up my two-door sports car for the "mom-mobile" (still compact, but with four doors and airbags...) We always swore never a mini-van.

You give great comment! I always think "ooo, Nino was here" whenever I see your name pop up. Makes me smile. Sounds like your trip out here was great, still makes me laugh that we practically traded places for our vacays.

I never had a van. There was a gargantuan Chrysler stationwagon in the early carpool days... and then a cr*ppy Hundai (an early one) during the single parent days when I wasn't in a carpool anymore anyway. And them my first beloved Camry Sedan... which was dinged enough to use for driving lessons and to lend to DD and DS when they were ready to drive. Amazing how fast one's needs change. The kids' Dad made do with boxy Volvos-- Your in smart company.

i never thot i would drive anything bigger than a 5-door hatch - but look at me now - driving a Ford Combi (station-wagon) - actually my thinking is that if we had to go big, might as well go all the way & i wanted the Ford S-Max (nicest MPV around) but couldn't justify the cost! Sigh.

You leave the most fabulous comments and I always appreciate them so much! Out of all of my "mommy friends" I was the next-to-last one to get a van. I held out as long as I could. And the last lingering one is expecting her second child and is looking at ... vans. I'll have to say it is much easier to get two kids in and out of the van than it was the Camry. So, really, we got the van for my (back) health. he he

I have a little 4 door sedan and Cam has the station wagon - guess who has the kids in their car all the time - yep ME. At least I save on fuel in my little 4 cylinder.
